Shri.Pawan Kumar Bansal,
Hon’ble Minister of
Railways,
New Delhi.
Respected Sir,
Sub: Request to allot Rs 50 crores to develop
Royapuram Railway station into another Terminal of Chennai – Regarding.
Ref: Budget 2012 - pre feasibility report to
develop Royapuram into a terminal - regarding
·
Roypuram Railway station is
the 3rd Railway station of India. It was built in 1856 after Howrah
in 1854 and Chatrapathi Sivaji in 1853.
·
It has vast Railway land with an extent of 62 acres; it is the
2nd largest next to Howarh.
·
For 51 years (1856 to 1907) it was serving as the only passenger
terminus for South - bound trains from Chennai.
·
After building Egmore Railway station in 1907, Royapuram was
used only for Goods traffic.
·
Now a new Goods terminal has been built at Korukkupet about
5.0 Km from Royapuram. So, Royapuram Station is absolutely free to be again
developed into a Passenger terminal.
·
Royapuram is situated at the heart of Chennai Metropolitan
city. It is only 4.5 Km from Chennai Central.
·
It can accommodate 16 platforms and trains can be operated
on three different routes. Thus Egmore Railway station can be retained as an
exclusive station for South bound trains.
·
In the Pre-Budget meeting - 2012, 27 Lok Sabha and Rajya
Sabha members of Tamilnadu presented a memorandum with request to develop
Royapuram into a terminus.
·
Based on the request from various sector, Hon’ble Minister
of Railways Mr.Dinesh Trivedi announced in his budget speech that “A pre-feasibility study for development of
Royapuram station in Tamilnadu will be taken during 2012-13” - (paragraph
38).
Now we request you
Sir, to allot 50 crore rupees to develop this 157 years old Royapuram Railway
station into a full-fledged modern and biggest terminal of Chennai.
Yours truly,
